Each vehicle licensed in Saskatchewan is insured by the SGI Auto Fund. SGI Auto Fund coverage provides the minimum protection required by law including:
- $200,000 liability
- $700 deductible for vehicle damage
- Personal injury coverage
Since this is the minimum coverage only, Saskatchewan drivers should purchase additional protection in the form of an Auto Extension Policy, more commonly known as a Package Policy.
Liability
By adding liability coverage you get the following additions to your basic license plate liability coverage:
- Increased liability coverage up to limits as high as $5 Million
- Family Security Coverage – this protects you and your family in the event that you are injured by an uninsured or under-insured driver.
Lower Deductible
Auto policies can lower your deductible from the $700 deductible on your basic license plate insurance. Lowered deductible amounts can range from $500 to as low as $50.
Note: Your deductible is the amount that you must pay before your insurance takes over to pay the remaining costs.
Non-Owned Driver Coverage
This gives you coverage when you are driving a vehicle you don't own, such as a borrowed or rented vehicle.
Special Options
- Replacement Cost provides protection against depreciation if your new vehicle is a total loss.
- Loss of Use coverage pays for a rented vehicle while your vehicle is being repaired as a result of an accident.
- Road Hazard Glass coverage helps you pay for stone bruises and windshield replacements.
